ONLINE UPDATE - Feb. 29 The Kentucky Blood Center currently has less than a half day of Type O blood ready to be shipped to hospitals. The winter weather and flu season have accounted for the shortage. Less blood is being collected, than hospitals are transfusing. Blood has been brought in from outside Kentucky to try to alleviate the shortage, but other states are also competing for the limited supply. You may donate blood at The Somerset Donor Center on South Highway 27.
ONLINE UPDATE-Feb. 29 The Lady Lakers were beaten last night by Cumberland County, 51-32 to put an end to their district run to the championship. Coach Craig Pippen's team now awaits a draw this Saturday to see who they will play next week in Western Kentucky's Diddle Arena. The Lady Lakers, 16th district runners-up, go to region for the first time in 14 years.
In Feb. 24-Mar.5 issue JAMESTOWN - In a meeting late last week, the American Legion Post #133, Jamestown Mayor Brooks Bates, Jamestown Attorney Kevin Shearer and Judge-Executive Mickey Garner decided that it was in the "Doughboy" monument's best interest to remain under control by the Legion.
